Jason Bagby – Director of Baseball Operations

Jason grew up playing baseball in Loudoun County.  He was part of the first State Championship team in Lower Loudoun in 1987.  He attended Broad Run High School and was a member of their first State Championship in 1991.  He was a first team All-State selection that year. He went on to play middle infield for James Madison University.  After graduating, Jason ended up back at Broad Run as a varsity assistant coach. For four years, he was responsible for the offense and infielders.  Since his time at BR, Jason has been working with players in individual and small group settings as well as coaching travel teams ranging from ages 12 to 16.  He has also spent a couple of summers coaching in the Clark Griffith League, a wooden bat summer league for college players.

Josh grew up in New Hampshire where he learned to pitch from Boston Red Sox legend Dr. John Bagonzi.  After playing at Lebanon High School, he headed off to continue his pitching career at Lynchburg College. After his college career ended due to a back injury, Josh shifted his focus to coaching.  He began coaching at the Little League and Babe Ruth levels.  He then became the varsity pitching coach at Lebanon HS along with heading the JV program.  In the fall of 2004, Josh landed in Northern Virginia as a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.  In his time here, he has helped many area athletes with sports conditioning ranging from baseball to lacrosse, from field hockey to basketball. Josh is responsible for developing and running our new Performance Enhancement Center that opened last year.  He also continues to be one of our top pitching instructors.

Mark graduated from Herndon High School in 1997 as a four year varsity starter and played on teams that won two District and Regional Championships.  As a catcher, Mark was named to All-District, Region, State, and Met teams. He went on to become a four year starter at University of Virginia as a catcher and DH.  He played professionally in the Detroit Tigers organization. After his professional career ended, Mark began coaching at the STAB school in Charlottesville where he won a State Championship as a catching and hitting coach. He is now back at Herndon HS as the Head JV Coach. He has also spent a couple of summers coaching in the Clark Griffith League.

Bruce Crabbe - Senior Hitting Instructor

Bruce entered his 22nd season in professional baseball in 2006. He was drafted by four separate Major League clubs before signing out of the University of Florida in 1984 with the Chicago Cubs. He played nine seasons professionally in the Cubs, Atlanta Braves, and Toronto Blue Jays organizations playing with such greats as Greg Maddux, Rafael Palmiero, Mark Grace, and Will Clark along the way. Bruce just completed his 13th year of coaching spending seven with the Texas Rangers as a Manager for their single A affiliate and Hitting Coach for their AAA affiliate in Oklahoma City.  He has worked under Major League Hitting Coach Rudy Jaramillo, considered by many the best hitting instructor in the game today, and has worked with such Major League hitters as Alex Rodriguez, Juan Gonzales, Hank Blalock, Mark Teixeira, and Michael Young.  Bruce spent 2005 as the hitting coach for the Wilmington Blue Rocks of the Carolina League, the high class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. In 2006, he managed the Lowell Spinners, a short season class A affiliate of the Red Sox.  Bruce is now in his second season as the Red Sox Infield Coordinator and spends his time traveling up and down the organization developing their infielders.

Greg Miller - Senior Hitting / Infield Instructor

Greg graduated from Herndon High School in 1997 after leading the Hornets to District and Regional Championships in 1995 and 1996. He was a first team All-Met selection in 1997 and set the all time record for hits at Herndon.  Greg went on to play for James Madison University where he was first team All-CAA (Colonial Athletic Conference) in 1999 and 2001. He graduated with the record for hits in a season with 100 as well as the all time hit leader at JMU, in the CAA, and the state of Virginia. Greg was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 20th round and spent three years in their organization, reaching AA Greenville.  In 2002, he made the South Atlantic League All-Star team and was named MVP of the game. After retiring from baseball, Greg took a job at Herndon High School and is currently their hitting coach.  He has also spent a couple of summers in the Clark Griffith League as the manager of the Herndon Braves which won back to back titles.

Dan Coghlan - Senior Pitching Instructor

Dan is a 2000 graduate from Herndon High School where he was an All-District and All-Region performer in baseball, football, and wrestling. He went on to play baseball and football at Waynesburg College where he was an All-President Athletic Conference selection in 2002 and 2004.  After graduating from Waynesburg, Dan has returned to Herndon HS to coach football and is the pitching coach for the JV team.  He also spent a summer as an assistant on the Herndon Braves, a team in the Clark Griffith League.

John Fulcher - Senior Pitching Instructor

John played at Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas where he graduated in 1993. He went on to pitch for George Mason University and was a 16th round selection of the Milwaukee Brewers in 1996. After playing three years of professional baseball, John became the Varsity pitching coach at TC Williams where he spent two years. He also worked at Pro Edge in Fairfax where he began giving pitching lessons.  In 2001, John became the Head JV Coach at West Springfield HS and after two years, he moved to Herndon HS where he is now the Varsity pitching coach.   John also spent six years as the coach of the Northern VA Blackhawks, a youth travel team that finished 8th overall in the 2006 CABA World Series.  He will now spend his summers as the pitching coach of the Herndon Braves in the Cal Rikpken Sr. Collegiate League.

Chris Smith - Hitting / Infield Instructor

Chris comes to us with a wealth of coaching experience.  He is currently an assistant coach at Herndon High School and the Head Coach of the Herndon Braves, the two time defending champions of the Clark Griffith League.  He spent two years at Pallotti HS in Maryland as the Head JV Coach and three years at DeMatha HS as the Head Freshman Coach. Chris has spent several years coaching at the collegiate level as well.  He served as an assistant coach for a year at Bowie State University.  He has also coached the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts and is now the manager of the Herndon Braves of the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate League.

Jay Raines - Hitting Instructor

Jay hails from Pennsylvania where he played at Alvernia College and Bloomsburg University.  He has been coaching in Loudoun County since 1996.  He spent four years at Park View High School and helped coach American Legion Post 150 for two summers. In 2001, Jay moved on to coach for Westfield High School, its first year in existence. He spent four years during that stretch as a hitting instructor at Northern Virginia Baseball Academy. He is currently the Head Varsity Coach at Dominion High School where he has spent four years in charge.

Eddie Kim - Hitting Instructor

Eddie has local ties as he graduated from Fairfax High School in 1999. He was an All-District and All-Region first baseman. He then went on to star at James Madison University as he was a two time Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year.  Eddie was an Honorable Mention All-American his junior year and then named to the Second Team after his senior season.  He was also the Eastern College Athletic Conference and Virginia Sports Information Director Player of the Year his senior year. He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 4th round of the 2003 MLB draft and is currently still playing with the Bradenton Juice of the South Coast League.

Dan Baker - Hitting / Catching Instructor

Dan grew up in Tecumseh, MI and was a four year starter at catcher for Tecumseh High School, earning All Southeastern Conference(SEC), All-Lenawee County, and All-Regional Honors. He currently holds the Tecumseh HS record for career fielding percentage.  He went on to become a four year starter at Division II Hillsdale College.  He currently holds the school record for highest batting average by a freshman (.415).  Dan is now an assistant with the 13U Reston Renegades baseball team.

Tim Anderson - Hitting / Pitching Instructor

Tim is a local product from Loudoun County High School where he was a two time All-District and All-Loudoun Extra selection at first base.  He was a member of the 1998 16 year old Babe Ruth World Series team that finished 4th. Tim went on to play at Gettysburg College where he was a pitcher and DH.  After graduating, he began his coaching career at Broad Run High School where is currently the head JV coach and varsity assistant.

Mike Dempsey - Pitching Instructor

Mike grew up in Syracuse, New York where he played baseball at Corcoran High School.  He earned All-League honors as a junior and senior and pitched a perfect game during his senior year.  Mike went on to play college baseball for Cortland State, where his teams played in four Division III College World Series.  He earned All-American honors as a junior, as well as being named to the All-Conference, Region, and ECAC teams. As a senior, he was MVP of the team, was named to the All-Region team, and also named the Outstanding Senior Male Athlete of the Year. After college, Mike became a pitching instructor with SportsZone Baseball Academy, served as the assistant Varsity coach at West Genesee High School, and was head coach for various local Senior Babe Ruth teams. Mike is now the Varsity pitching coach for Freedom High School in South Riding.

Pat Cassidy - Hitting / Catching / Pitching Instructor

Since 1997, Pat has served as the Head Varsity Baseball Coach at Broad Run High School in Ashburn. During his high school days, Pat was a teammate of Jason Bagby on the 1991 AA State Championship team at Broad Run HS. In 1995, Pat graduated from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where he was a four-year lettermen and Captain of the basketball team.  Since returning to Broad Run, he has been named Dulles District Baseball Coach the Year twice (2004, 2007), his teams have won over 100 games including the 2007 Dulles District Championship, and 16 of his players have gone on to play baseball at the college level.  Pat has directed many camps and has spoken at numerous baseball and basketball clinics and camps over the last decade. In 2005, he wrote and published the book "Effective Coaching: Teaching Young People Sports and Sportsmanship" (Westholme Publishing).

Rob Hunt - Hitting / Catching / Infield Instructor

Rob grew up in Southern California and played three years of Varsity baseball at US Grant High School where he was a two time All-City selection.  He then played and coached for two years at San Fernando Mission College. After leaving Mission College, Rob continued his coaching career with US Grant HS and was part of the staff that won the 1986 Los Angeles City 4A Championship. He has also held coaching positions at Notre Dame HS in Los Angeles and at Agoura HS in Agoura, CA.  In addition to coaching, Rob continued to pursue a career as a professional player as he played in some semi-pro leagues on the West Coast where he also served as a scout.  He also has 16 years experience as a Little League and Babe Ruth umpire.
