Josh Champney - Director of Performance Enhancement
Josh graduated from Lynchburg College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English although he spent four and half semesters studying Sports Medicine. He pitched on the baseball team before suffering a career ending back injury. Through is recovery, Josh found interest in not only coaching but also in strength and conditioning. For the past seven years, he has worked as both a personal trainer and a sports performance coach. He is a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) as well as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Josh has served as the Director of Performance Enhancement at DST since 2004 where he has designed and implemented all of our existing programs. His roster of athletes come from many sports including golf, skiing, basketball, soccer, baseball, and softball.
Kevin Bosworth - Performance Coach
As a high school athlete, Kevin lettered in three sports - crew, wrestling, and football. In 2005, he received a degree in Exercise Physiology from Shenandoah University where he played football from 2000-03. At the conclusion of his football career, he remained with the team as a part-time coach and assistant strength and conditioning coach until 2008. Kevin worked with the men’s basketball, women’s volleyball, soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey teams at Shenandoah University. He then went on to intern with Performance One in Columbus, Ohio where he worked with middle school and high school athletes as well as the Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League. From there, Kevin spent some time at Velocity Sports Performance in Ashburn and now works with the Marshall High School football and wrestling teams.
Val Coleman - Performance Coach
Val graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia. She is currently a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Born and raised in West Virginia, Val grew up playing soccer and softball. She continued to play soccer as a four year starter at Davis and Elkins. She also worked as a student strength and conditioning coach for the softball and soccer teams. Val comes to DST by way of Velocity Sports Performance where she was a Performance Coach for youth conditioning, high school strength, speed, and agility and also ran adult conditioning programs. In her spare time, she coaches and trains a U13 travel soccer team.
Mike Smith - Performance Coach
Mike graduated from Boise State University with a degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in fitness evaluation and programming. He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NCSA) and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He is also a member of the American Sports Education Program. Mike interned with Boise State Strength and Conditioning where his focus was on football. From there, he moved to Virginia to work with Velocity Sports Performance. Mike then spent the 2009 season with the Detroit Tigers single A affiliate where he was the strength coach for the Oneonta Tigers. In 2010, he was promoted to the AA affiliate in Erie and worked with the SeaWolves.
